Who knew that when the chair was invented, it would kill more people than any disease or catastrophe. The ancient Egyptians receive the credit for first building the chair, maybe as a means to rest while they were putting up those huge pyramids. Perhaps it was so their kings and queens would have a nice place to sit. Little did they realize we would take their invention and use it for evil. Lazy, overweight, obese people would use their creation for self-destruction!
I am kidding just a bit up above. Just like all inventions, it is all about how you use it. Chairs don’t kill people. Bad choices can kill people. Unfortunately, people are slowly shortening their lives by sitting too much. Studies show that the average office worker is sitting down for about 14 hours a day. That counts the hours at work and at home while they are relaxing.
Sitting is not so evil, as long as it’s done in moderation. Just like everything else in life. But long hours of sitting every day increases obesity, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and excess fat around the waist. Just look at the people around your office. In fact, the United States is the most obese country where 38 percent of people 15 or over are severely overweight. Those figures are expected to rise close to 50 percent in the coming years.
A sedentary lifestyle greatly affects the overall quality of a person’s life. Unfortunately, when a person is seated, they also tend to be eating quite a bit. One goes hand in hand with the other. It’s a snowball effect, and the bad habits will just keep piling up. If you are sitting, you are basically resting your body. No muscles are being used and your cardiovascular movements are essentially nonexistent.
If you are an employer and you care about your employees, or maybe you are just concerned about your own health, you may find that it is time to invest in height adjustable desks. There are numerous benefits to using these desks in your home or office.
Standing instead of sitting can lower your chance of weight gain which would later lead possibly to obesity. While you are standing, your muscles are actively engaged. Calories are being burned. Plus, people eat much less when they are standing rather than sitting.
If you have high blood sugar levels, the worst thing you can do for that is to sit down for long periods of time. Standing at the desk can lower your blood sugar levels. In fact, even just alternating every half an hour between standing and sitting can help balance out your blood sugar levels.
Standing also appears to help alleviate back pain for many. Much of back pain stems from too much fat around the midsection. It puts quite a strain on your back at all times. Alternating between sitting and standing will help you burn a few more calories and strengthen your back at the same time.
Something as simple as standing can improve mood and energy levels. If you consider this, it is easy to see how this would be true. Just laying down on a couch for a few minutes will soon turn into a marathon napping day for many of us.
There are several businesses switching over to height adjustable desks. Many schools are also making the conversion. It is important to find a company that offers quality along with a good price. Find a business that offers more custom height adjustable desk configurations than anyone in the industry. Easy to adjust desks can quickly take you from sitting to standing in no time.
